Corteo Will Travel to Scottsdale

In the Spring of 2006 Cirque du Soleil will bring the touring production of Corteo to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.

What is Corteo?

Corteo, means "cortege" in Italian, which, in this case, refers to a funeral procession. A clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. According to Cirque du Soleil, Corteo "highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us."

What are the dates for Corteo in Scottsdale?

Corteo is scheduled for March 17 through April 9, 2006. Generally, there are two shows on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and one show Tuesday through Friday. The performers rest on Monday.

What else should I know about Cirque du Soleil?

Cirque du Soleil travels with its own tent-style theatre called the Grand Chapiteau, which is French for Big Top. The theatre is specially designed so that every spectator will have a great seat. The stage is circular.

My Cirque du Soleil Tips:

  • If you've never been to a Cirque du Soleil performance, you are in for a treat. Children will enjoy it, but this isn't a circus in the Barnum & Bailey sense of the word. It is a story, set to music, including colorful costumes, intricate dances, and incredible acrobatics.
  • The seats in the Grand Chapiteau don't have arms, and are pretty close together. Leg room has definitely improved over previous shows in the Grand Chapiteau.
  • If you bring a coat, it will have to be kept in your lap or under the seat.
  • Even though the performance takes place in tents, don't worry--they are very attractive and temperature controlled.
  • No cameras or taping is allowed. Leave your phone at home, or at least turned off.
  • Refreshments and souvenirs are available at Cirque du Soleil performances.
